EXPLANATORY NOTE TO THE DOCUMENT "MAPPING CONFIGURATIONS OF CIVILIZATIONAL ACTION"
Architectural Project Version: v1.0
Document Revision: 1.1
Status: Final Revision
This explanatory note unfolds the architectural necessity, position, and mode of reading document L2-4, "Mapping Configurations of Civilizational Action." It introduces no new provisions and does not expand the content of the primary document. Its task consists in clarifying the transition from sustaining an individual configuration to working with a multiplicity of modes of its analytical sustaining.
Mapping emerges at the internal limit of the operational protocol. The protocol allows for sustaining an individual configuration within an analytical cross-section, but it does not specify a mode of working with a multiplicity of such cross-sections. Sustaining them simultaneously creates the risk of reducing configurations to objects of comparison, classification, ordering, or the reconstruction of a unified picture. Mapping is introduced as a mode of overcoming this limit without losing the analytical level.
The key shift consists in changing the analytical question: from "how connectivity is sustained" to "how different modes of sustaining connectivity correlate." Therefore, mapping correlates not configurations as objects, but the modes of their analytical sustaining, registered in the form of cross-sections.
An analytical cross-section is neither a state nor a fragment of reality. It exists solely within the act of differentiation and registers a configuration within a specific combination of dimensions and modes. Owing to this, mapping works not with "what is," but with "how it is sustained," and cannot—without losing its status—be transformed into a map, diagram, or model.
The trial mapping of a segment performs a protective function: it makes it possible to test the possibility of simultaneously sustaining several cross-sections without aiming to obtain a finished map. As such, the trial nature prevents the premature stabilization of mapping as a tool of representation.
The boundary of mapping arises where correlation is superseded by comparison, an analytical cross-section begins to be interpreted as a state of reality, and differentiation is treated as classification. Therefore, the purpose of this explanatory note is to safeguard the transition from an individual configuration to a multiplicity of modes of its sustaining, without reverting the analysis to description, modeling, or representation of reality.
Formula of the Document
Mapping arises at the limit of holding an isolated configuration, when preserving the analytical tier demands correlating a multiplicity of modes for holding connectivity.
A multiplicity of configurations demands not a general picture, but a novel mode of analytically holding them.
